First Trailer and Poster for THE CAPTIVES

Atom Egoyan‘s kidnapping drama The Captive (aka Captives) was also announced as a competition title at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and now the first trailer has arrived.

The film in the vein of Denis Villeneuve‘s Prisoners stars Ryan Reynolds as a father whose child goes missing when he leaves her alone in his truck for a few minutes while picking up some pie (or some ice cream) at a local diner.

Egoyan also co-wrote the script with David Fraser, which showcases much more behind the disappearance than it meets the eye.

The Captive co-stars Mireille Enos, Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast, and Bruce Greenwood.

A pick up truck pulls off the highway at a diner. Confident that his young daughter is safe in the back seat and promising to return with ice cream, the father slips out of his truck and into the diner. When he returns, she is gone.

The Captive examines how this kidnapping destroys the relationships among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the investigators, the mystery is revealed as to what happened to the child during the eight years she was missing.
