First Trailer for Guantanamo Bay Drama CAMP X-RAY Starring Kristen Stewart

IFC Films has released the first trailer for writer/director Peter Sattler’s Guantanamo Bay drama Camp X-Ray, starring the Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart and Payman Maadi from Iranian Oscar winner A Separation.

Set in post-9/11 America, the film which premiered at Sundance with mixed to positive reviews, touches on the controversial issues surrounding the treatment of Guantanamo detainees and does a nice job of portraying them as human beings rather than faceless villains.

One of those liberal movies that show terrorists are humans with feelings is essentially a long conversation between Private Amy Cole (Stewart) and a GITMO detainee Ali Amir (Moaadi).

A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots. But she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.

Camp X-Ray also stars Lane Garrison, John Carrol Lynch, and Cory Michael Smith.

The R-rated pic opens in theaters and VOD on October 28th.

Check out the first trailer for Sattler’s debut feature that actually shows some promise, especially when it comes to character-driven scenes where you’re really getting under the skin of the characters. Kristen Stewart has proved to be a very solid actor, while Payman Maadi turns in another remarkable performance.
