First Trailer for Joel Edgerton’s THE GIFT

Joel Edgerton's Directorial Debut

From the Insidious and Whiplash producer, Jason Blum, comes disturbing psychological thriller The Gift.  The first trailer for STX Entertainment’s debut movie has just premiered online. The Gift also marks the Joel Edgerton‘s feature directorial debut.

The newly formed mini-major studio is reportedly the first advertiser to work with Periscope, Twitter’s live video streaming app.

Edgerton appeared on Mario Lopez’s Periscope channel to discuss the film and play a clip from the trailer that was later released on Twitter with the help of Lopez, radio announcer and  television show producer Ryan Seacrest and other iHeartRadio talent who tweeted it.

I just hope Edgerton does even half as good (disturbing) with the film material as the marketing campaign behind it.

The Gift opens July 31, 2015 and co-stars Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall. Check out the first trailer for the film revolving around a young married couple who get an unwelcome new friend.

Can you really go through life having never wronged anyone? Even if you are unaware of how, or when, and even who you may have wronged….chances are there is someone out there who won’t ever forget it…or you.

Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall) are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance from Simon’s high school sends their world into a harrowing tailspin. Simon doesn’t recognize Gordo (Joel Edgerton) at first, but after a seemingly coincidental series of encounters proves troubling, a horrifying secret from their past is uncovered after nearly 20 years. As Robyn learns the unsettling truth about what happened between Simon and Gordo, she starts to question: how well do we really know the people closest to us, and are past bygones ever really bygones?
