Mike Leigh’s Historical Drama

Amazon Studios has released the first official trailer for Peterloo, the Mike Leigh’s historical epic, starring Rory Kinnear, Maxine Peake, Pearce Quigley, Philip Jackson, Karl Johnson, Tim McInnerny, and David Moorst.

Sounds like a raunchy American comedy. Which it isn’t: the story deals with the infamous Peterloo Massacre in St. Peter’s Field, Manchester, England in August of 1819, where local authorities called for a cavalry charge to disperse radical reformers protesting undemocratic representation and widespread famine caused by the infamous Corn Laws.

Peterloo opens in theaters on November 9. Watch the first teaser below.
