First Trailer for MORTDECAI, Starring Johnny Depp

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the upcoming Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp in the title role, and it looks rather amusing.

Based on the books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, the action-comedy crime film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Goldblum.

The teaser doesn’t sell any of the plot of David Koepp’s Mortdecai, but it gives us an idea of the movie’s tone. Judging by the clip, the movie looks weird, recapturing a ’60s vibe to the comedy and maybe in a good way. The books are hilarious and I hope this will launch a franchise. The script was adapted by rookie screenwriter Eric Aronson.

Mortdecai hits theaters February 6, 2015.

Here’s a look at the first teaser.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
