First Trailer for Terrence Malick’s KNIGHT OF CUPS Looks Very Malicky

Christian Bale Natalie Portman

On the heels of this morning’s announcement that Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups will have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, FilmNation Entertainment has debuted the film’s first trailer.

Malick’s most recent, long-delayed feature stars Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett indulging in sex, guns and club life.

The pic from the reclusive director co-stars Brian Dennehy, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Wes Bentley, Isabel Lucas, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and Ben Kingsley (doing voice-over work).

Emmanuel Lubezki‘s on this one again as well as he  shot the other film–currently untitled feature that was previously named Lawless–Malick shot back-to-back in 2012 and is still trying to edit and schedule for release. Watch it below.

This trailer definitely caught my eye, but I’m actually curious to see how many of the actors featured in the trailer will be completely cut out by the time the film’s released. And I hope this isn’t all the dialogue that’s in the movie for the trailer. The Knight of Cups synopsis reads as follows:

Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep.

Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy.

The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?
