The first trailer for meta-remake, The Town That Dreaded Sundown has landed ahead of its premiere at Austin’s Fantastic Fest this month.

Produced by American Horror Story‘s Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum, the feature debut of AHS director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon ties to Charles B. Pierce‘s 1976 slasher based on a true story about a rash of killings that plagued the small town of Texarkana in the ’40s.

The modern day take on a masked killer kicks off 65 years after the events of the first movie when the terror has returned and seems to be singling out Addison Tilmin’s character.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown co-stars Gary Cole, Spencer Treat Clark, alongside Denis O’Hare, Edward Herrmann, Veronica Cartwright, Ed Lauter, and Wes Chatham.

The sequel of sorts was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the Carrie remake) and will hit Beyond Fest in Los Angeles and the BFI London Film Festival before it arrives in theaters on October 16th.

That actually looks like it could offer a fun, B-movie thrill.
