First Trailer for ‘Truth,’ Starring Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford

Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the first official trailer for Truth, the James Vanderbilt‘s drama about the “Rathergate” scandal of 2010, starring Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford.

Vanderbilt‘s (writer and producer, known for The Amazing Spider-Man and Zodiac) directorial debut goes into CBS News’ investigation into George W. Bush’s war record and whether or not he had gone AWOL or even deserted the military for a time.

The film co-stars Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss, Bruce Greenwood, Stacy Keach and Dennis Quaid, and will open in select theaters on October 16th with a nationwide expansion to follow.

I will say just this about Truth: Hollywood yarns not withstanding. Sony also released a first teaser poster for the film.

James Vanderbilt‘s Drama

TRUTH is an independent feature film based on the book “Truth and Duty” by Mary Mapes. In the vein of “All The President’s Men” and “The Insider”, it is the incredible true story of Mary Mapes (played by Cate Blanchett), an award-winning CBS News Journalist and Dan Rather’s producer, who broke the Abu-Ghraib prison abuse story, among others.

The film chronicles the story Mapes and Rather (played by Robert Redford) uncovered that a sitting US president may have been AWOL from the United States National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War. When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Dan Rather’s career, nearly changed a US Presidential election, and almost took down all of CBS News in the process.
