First Trailer for Universal’s ‘The Mummy’ Reboot Starring Tom Cruise
Hot on the heels of Thursday’s trailer tease and poster drop, Universal has debuted the full first The Mummy trailer, starring Tom Cruise as the man who digs up the ancient monster in the female form of Sofia Boutella.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie, it’s being planned as the first film in the Universal Monster cinematic universe featuring classic monsters such as The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man and more.
The updated take on the original Universal Mummy movie from 1932 hits theaters on June 9th, 2017. Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe (as Dr. Jekyll) co-star. Check out the first official trailer below.
The Brendan Fraser-led The Mummy reboot opted for a more lighthearted feel. This trailer seems to market it as a bit more of an action hero movie franchise than a horror movie franchise.
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Update: Here’s a new The Mummy featurette that takes you inside the launch of Universal’s Monster Universe.
That was a heck of a first featurette. The fact that they did so much using practical effects has me really excited.
