The French-language, Canadian drama shared the prestigious honor with Jean Luc-Godard for the Jury Prize and will open in Canada on September 19, but is yet to set US release date.

Mostly presented in a 1:1 aspect ratio, the film follows

a widowed single mother, raising her violent ADHD son alone, who finds new hope when a mysterious neighbor inserts herself into their household.

Mommy stars Anne Dorval, Suzanne Clément and Antoine-Olivier Pilon.

Young Quebecois filmmaker has already gained a reputation for his style-saturated films including  Tom at the Farm (2013), Laurence Anyways (2012), Heartbeats (2010) and I Killed My Mother (2009).

Check out an all new 3-minute preview for the film which is using cinematic medium in a fresh, innovative way for a specific urban audience.

I’m sure Mommy will be playing at TIFF.
