First Trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Lobster’

The Guardian has debuted the first full-length trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ dystopian romance The Lobster, ahead of its UK release coming the October.

The first English-language feature of Dogtooth director premiered at Cannes this year, and besides winning the Jury Prize, the film also was up for the Palme d’Or.

Toplined by Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, this “offbeat dating satire” is described as “if Charlie Kaufman, Miranda July, and Wes Anderson went into the woods together and all had the same vision quest hallucination.”

Jessica Barden, Olivia Colman, Ashley Jensen, Ariane Labed, Angeliki Papoulia, John C. Reilly, Léa Seydoux, Michael Smiley, and Ben Whishaw are among the supporting cast in the film. The Lobster arrives October 16th in the U.K., but does not yet have a U.S. release date.

I’m so happy to see Lanthimos has broken into English-language cinema with such a great cast and concept. Looks too weird for me not to watch.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Dystopian Romance

A love story set in the near future where single people, according to the rules of The City, are arrested and transferred to The Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods. A desperate Man escapes from The Hotel to The Woods where The Loners live and falls in love, although it is against their rules.
