First Trailer: Shannon & Spacey are ‘Elvis & Nixon’

Historical Comedy Film

Amazon Studios has unveiled the first trailer for the historical comedy film Elvis & Nixon, starring Michael Shannon as a King and Kevin Spacey as Tricky Dick.

Directed by filmmaker Liza Johnson, the feature tells of a time when Presley turned up at the White House and demanded to be sworn in as a Federal Agent to join in the fight against drugs and communism by then the Commander in Chief Richard Nixon.

Co-starring Evan Peters, Ashley Benson, Alex Pettyfer, Colin Hanks, Johnny Knoxville and Tate Donovan, the movie arrives in theaters this April. Check out the trailer and poster below.

It’s obvious that Shannon doesn’t look much like Elvis, and Spacey doesn’t look much like Nixon but I’m okay with that, because they’re both such talented actors. Spacey sounds and acts just as he does with Frank Underwood and that doesn’t make me feel good. I’d prefer a little more color to the Shannon’s performance, too, but hopefully there’s more to it in the movie.

Historical Comedy Film

Elvis & Nixon follows two men at the height of their powers, conscious they could not stay on top forever, both ripped with fear of the inevitable, sharing one famous private moment in the Oval office. The film recounts the morning of December 21st 1970, when the King of Rock’ n Roll (Shannon) showed up on the White House lawn to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Richard Nixon (Spacey). He had a very urgent request: to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent at large. This intimate moment in the Oval office between two men at the height of their powers has never been told.
