Frank Darabont in Talks to Direct [Snow White and] THE HUNTSMAN Spinoff

The good news is that, according to multiple reports, Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman 2 may have found their director. “Walking Dead” creator Frank Darabont has emerged as a front-runner to helm the spinoff now titled The Huntsman.

But, first of all Kristen Stewart is not expected to return as Snow White.

The follow-up project to the original, which Rupert Sanders helmed is said to focus more on the Huntsman character portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. Charlize Theron, who played the villain in the first film, will also more likely return and if Stewart returns it would most likely just be a cameo or something.

Previous shortlist of directors included Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and Andres Muschietti (Mama), but the studio and producer Joe Roth were said to be happy with Darabont’s take for the sequel.

His feature directorial credits include The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Majestic, and The Mist. The veteran filmmaker started up AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” but left the zombie show over creative differences in 2011.

The first SWATH film was a fantasy/adventure in the vein of the 80’s films of the genre, but with Darabont on board, I will give this franchise a chance.
