Full Cast Announced for Zhang Yimou’s THE GREAT WALL
The Legendary fantasy film The Great Wall, an American/Chinese co-production directed by the incredible Zhang Yimou (Hero) is now on track to begin shooting by the end of March.
The biggest movie ever shot entirely in China for global distribution, centers on an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the eponymous structure. Max Brooks (World War Z) penned a script based off an idea by Legendary’s Thomas Tull.
Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal and Willem Defoe are among the previously announced cast members taking on the American roles, alongside an extensive cast of Chinese nationals.
Infernal Affairs star Andy Lau, Jing Tian and Zhang Hanyu as well as Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Lin Gengxin, Zheng Kai, Chen Xuedong, Huang Xuan and pop star Wang Junkai have all joined the Yimou-helmed epic. Looking forward to the film debut of Chinese Justin Bieber.
Legendary’s long-in-development film once had Ed Zwick helming and Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker attached. The plot is reportedly set in the 15th Century, following soldiers who go out in search of gunpowder, as they come across the construction of The Great Wall of China. They learn that the Chinese are not only building the Wall to keep out invading Mongolian forces, but also to keep supernatural creatures at bay.
Universal has set a November 23, 2016 release date for the pic. Le Vision and China Film Co. Ltd will distribute in China during the 2016 holiday season.
