Weekend Box Office: FURIOUS 7 Tops THE AGE OF ADALINE

Furious 7 had enough gas left in the tank to do it and finish at the top of the box office for the fourth straight week. The Universal action film took in an estimated $18.3 million, bringing its domestically to $320.5 million. Just one last time before Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in the U.S. this Friday.

The Age of Adaline, a romantic fantasy starring Blake Lively, had a better Friday than Furious 7 with an estimated $5 million, but settled into third place for the weekend with $13.375 million. The film didn’t have a huge media budget, but still notched a solid opening weekend.

The Sony comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 claimed the number two slot in its second weekend. The Kevin James‘ Vegas-set sequel took in $15.5 million, bringing its total to nearly $44 million.

The top five was rounded out by DreamWorks Animation’s Home ($8.3 million) and Blumhouse Pictures’ micro-budget horror film Unfriended ($6.2 million).

Expanding this weekend to a wide 1,255 locations was A24’s sci-fi tale Ex Machina and brought in $5.4 million, enough to bring its cume to $6.9 million. One of the best movies of the year thus far.

In related news, Russell Crowe‘s directorial debut The Water Diviner opened in 320 locations this weekend, bringing in a $1.2 million for a $3,906 per theater average. Check out the Rentrak top ten list:

Weekend Domestic Estimates

Next weekend is Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is expected to earn more than $200 million in its opening weekend. The latest installment from Disney’s Marvel unit just snagged $201.2 million in its overseas debut. Impressive.
