FURY Director David Ayer Eyeing Warner Bros. SUICIDE SQUAD

Variety and THR report that Warner Bros. might be pulling-out an old DC project Suicide Squad out of development limbo. End of Watch and Fury director David Ayer is WB’s top choice to helm the pic based on DC Comics properties, which teams up a bunch of supervillains like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Joker’s Daughter and Black Manta.

The group is given a chance to shave years from their prison sentences by taking part in the mission that will likely end up killing all of them. They’re basically the Impossible Mission Force, but made up of the lesser-known supervillains. The Suicide Squad was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959.

Dan Lin and Chuck Roven are producing from a script that Justin Marks (Top Gun 2) wrote in 2011.

The Suicide Squad appeared most recently on the CW series Arrow and featured in the DC animated movie, Batman: Assault on Arkham. The upcoming feature film will presumably take one of Warner Bros. / DC’s slots locked in already through 2020:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – 03/25/16
Untitled DC Film – 08/05/16
Untitled DC Film – 06/23/17
Untitled DC Film – 11/17/17
Untitled DC Film – 03/23/18
Untitled DC Film – 07/27/18
Untitled DC Film – 04/05/19
Untitled DC Film – 06/14/19
Untitled DC Film – 04/03/20
Untitled DC Film – 06/19/20

This is a pretty decent choice. The gritty filmmaker Ayer knows how to take on the darker side of characters. Stay tuned to see how DC’s answer to Sony’s Sinister Six develops.
