G.I. JOE 3 Eyes DISTURBIA Director D.J. Caruso

Deadline reports that D.J. Caruso, who directed the Shia LaBeouf hits Disturbia and Eagle Eye, is currently in early negotiations to direct the third G.I. Joe film.

While a deal has yet to be solidified, the site describes the talks as “very promising”.

Jon M. Chu directed the previous installment of Hasbro and Paramount’s live-action film franchise that was launched in 2009 with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The followup to 2013′s G.I. Joe: Retaliation from a script by Jonathan Lemkin (Paramount revealed last summer), would center more on Dwayne Johnson‘s character, Roadblock.

Aside from Johnson, who is also involved in the creative direction of the series as well, it’s unclear which actors from the previous films would return. Adrianne Palicki, who spends 3/4 of the movie in “sexy” clothing to seduce various villains, is rumored to return as Lady Jaye though.

No word yet on a specific release date, but no doubt Paramount would love to get G.I. Joe 3 in front of cameras this year.

Caruso, who directed the YA sci-fi thriller I Am Number Four, most recently wrapped Relativity’s supernatural thriller The Disappointments Room starring Kate Beckinsale, which is set for release Sept. 25.

If Michael Bay films excite you, then you should not miss G.I. Joe films. The whole franchise is based on a popular series of toys, after all. But it also depends on what is your tolerance for American jingoism. G.I Joe 2 was Team America played straight in that domain, and I really had no major issue with it. Can’t wait for “G.I. Joe 12: So Very Tired“. lol
