George Miller Reveals Title for FURY ROAD Sequel

Mad Max Next Entry

In a new interview, writer/director George Miller didn’t seem all too worried about the planned Mad Max: Fury Road follow-up and confirmed that the next high-octane thrill ride will be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland.

With a reported $150 million budget, some see Fury Road’s $44 million opening as disappointing.

“We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded,” former emergency room doctor turned high-impact visionary explained on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith (via Playlist).

Since it took Miller three years from the start of production to release to make Fury Road, the question is whether Warner Bros. be willing to wait that long?

The Wasteland is the name of the world in which the Mad Max films take place. But what happened to Mad Max: Furiosa which was supposed to be filmed in conjunction with Fury Road? Apparently, Charlize Theron is not crazy about returning given how grueling a shoot Fury Road was.

The George Miller directed film, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, is now playing in theaters and if word of mouth can continue to gain Fury Road some much needed traction among moviegoers, there may be hope The Wasteland will see the light of day.
