Richard Donner Confirms GOONIES Sequel is Happening

A sequel to the belowed 1985 cult classic, The Goonies has been rumored for years, but the project finally gained some traction recently.

The original director/producer Richard Donner was corned with a video camera by gossip site TMZ and dropped the bomb that they’re doing a sequel.

Asked if he will do another comic book movie, the director behind Superman and Superman II, replied:

“If you call Goonies a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”

One of the reporters wanted to know if any of the stars from the epic 1980s flick would return for The Goonies 2, and Donner said he wants to bring back the original cast for the follow-up.

The mid-80s pirate adventure, written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg, starred Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton.

Last year, the now 43-year-old actor Sean Astin told IGN,

“I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.”

More recently (actually, yesterday), Corey Feldman took to Twitter to confirm,

I think it would be a great spinoff with the original cast involved in some capacity. Do you think The Goonies 2 should follow a new cast?
