Marvel Studios has debuted the first official Guardians of the Galaxy clip, featuring an extended version of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) introducing himself to Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Honsou).

The new footage shows off the hero as the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt by some sort of interstellar peace officer (Korath) and gives us the first clear view of Quill’s iconic mask from the comics.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket ( Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (David Batista). But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Marvel’s next big screen superhero adventure hits the big screen August 1, also starring Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, John C. Reilly with Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.
