Principal Photography Has Begun

Marvel Studios has begun principal photography for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with James Gunn directing once again.

Gunn has taken to social media to announce the official start of filming on the sequel by way of a new image of the whole gang getting ready to hit the stage: Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (voice of Vin Diesel), Star-Lord (Christ Pratt), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Glenn Close are also returning.

Speaking of the cast, the new faces who will be joining the fun are Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan, while Pom Klementieff and Kurt Russell are finally confirmed. Klementieff is indeed playing Mantis who in the comic books is a former Avengers member, can communicate telepathically and she’s also a grandmaster martial artist. No word yet on whether or not Russell will play a role of Star-Lord’s dad as previously rumored.

Here’s the very brief first synopsis:

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.
