HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 Delayed to 2017

Just because How to Train Your Dragon 2 has performed well at the box office, doesn’t mean the next film in the series will be rushed out the door.

The film has crossed the $600m across the globe, with a $174m domestically, but the third adventure of Hiccup and Toothless has been pushed back a year.

Originally slated to open in theaters on June 17, 2016, the release of How To Train Your Dragon 3 is being delayed to June 9, 2017, sandwiched between The LEGO Movie sequel and a currently untitled animation also from Pixar.

It’s unclear why the date was changed, but the request for more time presumably came from writer/director Dean DeBlois and producer Bonnie Arnold, the same creative team as the first two films. I think it’d be easier for the sequel go up against Pixar’s Finding Dory, but at least it’s still happening.

Returning cast includes Jay Baruchel as the voice of Hiccup, along with co-stars America Ferrera as Astrid and Cate Blanchett as Hiccup’s mother Valka.

Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T. J. Miller and Kristen Wiig are also expected to return to reprise their voice roles in the third installment of the animated franchise, the best in a long time in the midst of all these cheesy, kiddy cartoons.
