Idris Elba in Early Talks to Play STAR TREK 3 Villain

Third Installment Of The Sci-Fi Franchise

Variety first broke the news that Idris Elba is in early talks for the third installment of the Star Trek franchise. Details on his villainous role are being kept under wraps.

However the report says:

Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case.

The star of Thor: The Dark World and Pacific Rim is probably in negotiations to play a key villainous role in Star Trek 3, which features the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Simon Pegg as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

Justin Lin is set to direct from a script by Doug Jung and Pegg himself. I hope they’ll stop the trend of underwritten villain roles in this series. The film is scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release.

Elba – who can next be seen in Cary Fukunaga‘s next film, Beasts of No Nation – is a busy actor these days: yesterday, he took over for Jamie Foxx to lead Harmony Korine‘s The Trap.
