According to THR, 20th Century Fox has found “Survivor’s Remorse” star Jessie Usher to fill the boots of the young stepson of Will Smith’s character Captain Steven Hiller in their Independence Day sequel.

It is believed that Liam Hemsworth will be playing the nephew of Bill Pullman‘s president character. The original ID director Roland Emmerich also confirmed Jeff Goldblum for the film. He’ll reprise his role as computer genius David Levinson.

“My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of pushups at the gym and gave him an audition,” Emmerich explained on Facebook. “As they say, the rest is history!”

Pullman is expected to reprise his President Thomas role as well, according to The Wrap. Hopefully they get Mae Whitman (The DUFF) back as his daughter.

Emmerich is returning to direct the long-gestating sequel, which is set for release on June 24, 2016, almost exactly 20 years from when the original film hit theaters on July 3, 1996.

Production on ID 2 (or ID Forever) is looking to begin in May with a script most recently rewritten by Carter Blanchard. The script will likely establish Smith character’s death or disappearance because he’ll definitely not appear in Independence Day sequel.
