Is a “Watchmen” Series from Zack Snyder in the Works at HBO?

Zack Snyder Rumor

According to Collider, a “Watchmen” TV series is being considered at HBO. The fan-favorite premium cable outlet is reportedly talking with Zack Snyder about a possible TV series adaptation of what was once called an unadaptable graphic novel.

Snyder is the man behind the 2009 movie version of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons comic book, which brought in just $185 million at the worldwide box office and received mixed reviews from critics.

There are no further details about the exact nature of the would-be series, including whether it will be a prequel, sequel, reboot, or even just a story set in the same world with different characters. It looks like it’s still very early days for the series, but with “Game of Thrones” inching closer to its final season, HBO must be on the lookout for its “next big thing.”

Snyder has since become a major creative force in the DC Superhero Universe. He’s currently editing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will start production on two Justice League films in spring 2016. It’s hard to say what his role might be at this stage, but I’d personally like someone else to pilot the project. I always thought it would be a better fit for someone who isn’t going to fetishize the fight scenes as much.
