J.J. Abrams Rumored to Helm STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

The Galaxy Far Far Away

A new scoop on Star Wars is interesting but highly mutable: Latino Review suggests that there’s a “good chance” The Force Awakens helmer J.J. Abrams will return to direct Star Wars: Episode IX after Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII.

Disney is reportedly very happy with what Abrams has delivered in Star Wars: Episode VII so they may pull him back into the Galaxy Far Far Away.

First of all, this rumor bodes well for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, coming in December of 2015. And then, if Episode VII goes well, Episode IX could be a pretty sweet gig for Abrams.

On the other hand, there are also reports that Episode VIII writer/director Rian Johnson is writing the early treatment for Episode IX. It would make a lot more sense for the studio to offer him the directing job on it, especially since there have been reports of disagreements between Abrams and the studio.

Whatever they decide, Rogue One opens Dec. 16, 2016, followed by Episode VIII on May 26, 2017; Episode IX is expected to hit theaters in 2019, respectively.
