James Bobin to Direct ‘23 Jump Street-Men in Black’ Crossover

Sony's Crossover Movie

A crossover of Jump Street and Men in Black that was leaked during the 2014 massive Sony hack is still moving ahead as the studio enters early talks with The Muppets director James Bobin to take the helm.

The news of two hit franchises crossover comes hot on the heels of Venom movie revival, despite the fact Sony hasn’t officially issued a green light for the movie yet. However, they are aiming to start production this summer.

According to Variety, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will reprise their roles as Jenko and Schmidt, although Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be doing the same as Agent Jay and Kay as the studio will relaunch Men in Black “with younger, fresher faces.”

Phil Lord and Chris Miller will no longer direct — they departed the project to helm Disney’s Han Solo Star Wars spinoff movie — but will stay on as producers alongside Neil Moritz. 22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman penned the script although no plot details have been made available.

Sony Pictures is making moves today, there’s no doubt about that, but we have the paranormal comedy movie everybody wants instead of a real Ghostbusters movie with the 21 Jump Street directors. What’s next, Paul Blart: Mall Cop meets James Bond?

Meanwhile, Sony is also developing a separate female-driven 21 Jump Street spinoff with Broad City‘s Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs and Bob’s Burgers‘ Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux writing competing scripts (via /Film).

Sony done lost it’s mind.
