Jason Sudeikis to Lead FLETCH Remake

The Fletch remake has been on Hollywood’s radar for some time, but now at long last it’s finally coming down the pipeline.

The Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis is reportedly in talks to fill Chevy Chase’s shoes as the titular character in Fletch Won, the long-gestating reboot of the Fletch series. Chase starred in two Fletch movies during the 1980s, adapted from Gregory McDonald‘s mystery novels.

The upcoming film is being eyed as “an origin story, described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with [the original Gregory] McDonald novels than the Chase movies.”

Warner Bros. had gone through many drafts with many different writers including Kevin Smith who was attached to write and direct until 2005, and was replaced by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence.

Now, producers David List, Steve Golin, and Michael Sugar along with writer David List are trying their best to get the project off the ground. Fletch Won is being described as a “gritty action comedy” in the same vein as Beverly Hills Cop and Midnight Run.

No doubt Sudeikis is a great fit and now a director just needs to be found.
