Jean-Claude Van Damme Returning to KICKBOXER Reboot in Master Role

Earlier this year, the martial arts legend Tony Jaa (Fast & Furious 7) was previously slated to star in the high-octane Kickboxer remake from John Stockwell (Cat Run).

However, Ong-bak 2 star has left the Kickboxer reboot, but will be replaced by original star and action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme (JCVD) in the Master Chow role. It seems that Honk Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung dropped out as well, although his name is on the poster below.

Um, now I definitely am interested. The remake of the 1989 cult classic stars WWE superstar Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (Captain America: The Winter Solider), and introduces Alain Moussi (X-Men: Dats of Future Past) to lead a franchise remake back into action.

Kickboxer, which began production this week, follows Kurt Sloan (Moussi), “a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista).”

Ted Field from Radar Films says:

“We are so excited to have Kickboxer roll into production and to have JCVD in the role of Master Chow, passing the torch to Alain, to have him lead the franchise to a new generation.”

Check out a teaser poster that was already released for this reboot (via Comingsoon).
