Joe Dante to Direct New Supernatural Thriller ‘Labirintus’

Buda Castle Budapest

Gremlins’ director Joe Dante has reportedly signed on to direct a new supernatural thriller called Labirintus.

The director of Pirahna, The Howling, Gremlins 1 and 2, The Hole, and Burying the Ex is heading to Hungary for his next project, which tells the story of

a paranormal investigator and psychiatric researcher who join forces to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within Hungary’s Budapest Labyrinth, the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group, they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze.

It’s always great to hear that Dante has a new project on the way. I hope he finds proper funding this time around – Burying the Ex was underwhelming.

The upcoming Hungarian castle horror film will be looking for distribution at next month’s American Film Market. Production is expected to begin next spring.
