Johnny Depp in Talks to Star in THE SECRET LIFE OF HOUDINI

Summit Entertainment’s adaptation of the book The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero has been kicking around Hollywood for years now.

Unlike the original story (by William Kalush and Larry Sloman), the film version will take on an Indiana Jones-esque feel as Houdini finds himself investigating the world of the occult.

And who would fit the role of Lionsgate/Summit’s Harry Houdidi better than Johnny Depp himself? The Transcendence actor is reportedly in talks to play the infamous magician in the film set to be directed by Dean Parisot (RED 2) with a script by Noah Oppenheim.

However, The Secret Life of Houdini will have to wait to secure Depp’s services since the actor has three films in post-production (London Fields, Into the Woods and Mortdecai) and is currently filming Whitey Bulger drama Black Mass before he reprises the role of the Mad Hatter for Alice in Wonderland 2 aka Through the Looking Glass due out on May 27, 2016.

But I doubt he’d take this role if he had to choose between Houdini movie and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 that is “floating in dock waiting to sail once the script is shipshape”.

Disney would just pay him more money, or maybe Depp can do magic and pull some free time out of his silly hat?
