You know, when it rains, it pours. There is Star Wars news everyday. Not that I’m complaining, but another Star Wars director has been revealed.

Along with the main trilogy, the first full spin-off to be directed by Gareth Edwards, now comes the announcement that Chronicle and current Fantastic Four helmer Josh Trank is to direct a second standalone Star Wars movie as well.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank states,

“The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Yesterday, we received our first photos from the set of Episode VII, but aside from cast announcements, very little news about the film has been released.

That’s probably just how J.J. Abrams likes it as a tweet from Bad Robot suggests that the master of the mystery box is taking the steady stream of leaks in stride.

The checkered piece of metal in the background of Abrams’ note is the hologram chess board that appeared in the original Star Wars. This is Abrams’ way of saying “Of course the Millennium Falcon is in Episode VII (check those out by clicking here). Because what’s the point of continuing the series otherwise?”
