Joss Whedon Exits WB’s ‘Batgirl’ Movie

Director Exits Batgirl Movie

An exclusive from THR reports that Avengers and Firefly director Joss Whedon has decided to exit the DC stand-alone movie based on the superheroine.

Here’s what Whedon had to say:

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed?’”

When has that stopped films from getting made? Films start shooting without completed scripts all the time. Usually a bad idea, but it’s pretty routine. Nevermind…

Last spring, Whedon was officially announced to be at the helm of bringing Batgirl/Barbara Gordon to the big screen. Reports indicate that Warner Bros. is now seeking a female director to take this character. Duh.
