‘Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back’ Trailer
Written and produced by Stephen Chow and directed by Tsui Hark, Journey to the West 2: The Demons Strike Back has its first full-length trailer.
Based on China’s ancient fantasy novel “Journey to the West,” the upcoming comedy adventure film is the sequel to 2013’s Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, which was directed by Chow and was set before the monk Tang Sanzang recruited his three-men entourage. The sequel focuses on the young and handsome monk who is on a pilgrimage to the Western Regions (modern-day India) to seek Buddhist scripts. He saves and recruits three disciples to help him fend off demons during his journey.
Original cast members Shu Qi, Wen Zhang, and Huang Bo will all return for the sequel, joined by newcomers Vicky Zhao, Kris Wu and Kenny Lin. The Demons Strike Back opens in China and Hong Kong on January 28, and in the U.S. sometime this year. Check it out below (via ScreenAnarchy).
Tang Monk brings three disciples on a journey to the West. On the outside, everything seems harmonious. However, tension is present beneath the surface, and their hearts and minds are not in agreement. After a series of demon-capturing events, the monk and his disciples gain mutual understanding of each others’ hardships and unease. Finally, they resolve their inner conflict and work together to become an all-conquering, demon-exorcising team.
