Kate Beckinsale Confirmed for the Fifth UNDERWORLD Film

The Fifth Entry In Franchise

THR first broke the news that Kate Beckinsale is returning for the fifth entry in the Underworld franchise. She’ll join Theo James as the Vampire Warrior Selene with Anna Foerster set to make her feature directorial debut. Foerster most recently served as the director of photography on 2013’s White House Down.

Back in September, James, who played David in Underworld: Awakening, signed on to reprise his role as the Vampir. At that time, it was not believed that Beckinsale would be back as Selene. (Well, lucky, Hollywood actresses don’t age).

Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter) wrote the screenplay for the new movie, which will start shooting in Prague this October. Rumor has it the film will focus on a new, younger group of vampires and werewolves who are once again wrapped in a battle for supremacy.

The first Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman, was released in 2003 and follows the adventures of Kate’s Selene, a vampire “Death Dealer” caught in the war between vampires and Lycans (I really liked it). It was followed by Underworld: Evolution in 2006 (that was ok), Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009 (that was decent too) and Underworld: Awakening in 2012 (well, that sucked).

Beckinsale most recently starred in Brad Anderson’s Stonehearst Asylum, and will next be seen in Terry Jones’ new sci-fi comedy Absolutely Anything.
