‘Kingsman’s’ Sofia Boutella in Talks to Star in ‘The Mummy’

The Mummy Reboot

Kingsman: The Secret Service actress Sofia Boutella is reportedly in talks to play the title role in Alex Kurtzman‘s upcoming remake of The Mummy opposite Tom Cruise, confirming rumors that the new reboot would contain a female villain.

Jon Spaihts wrote the script for the modern-day set feature, which is expected to kick-off an interconnected film universe for the Universal movie monsters.

The Mummy reboot has already locked in a March 24, 2017 release date with another Untitled Universal Monster Movie set to follow it on March 30th, 2018.

Following her attention-getting turn in Kingsman as the blade-legged Gazelle, Boutella will be seen next in Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond and has also landed a role in The Coldest City, an adaptation of an Oni Press graphic novel by Anthony Johnston and Sam Hart.

Boutella is an interesting choice, but I feel like they need to sign Cruise for me to have any confidence with this project.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news, though a representative for Universal had no comment.
