Kurt Russell Eyed for Role of Star-Lord’s Dad in ‘Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 2’

Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 2

Unnamed sources have informed The Wrap that director James Gunn is keen on casting none other than Kurt Russell for a major role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

No offer has been made, the actor hasn’t even read the script so this may or may not happen at all. However, meetings between Russell and Marvel are expected to take place soon.

One of the popular rumors surrounding the film is that Gunn‘s Guardians sequel will focus on the identity of Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father, and now the site reports that Marvel is eyeing Russell for that part.

Comic book movies are no longer “low art” – we recently learned that Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Thor: Ragnarok, and someone like Russell would be a fantastic addition to the Marvel ensemble that includes returning stars Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Benicio del Toro, Sean Gunn, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, along with newcomer Pom Klementieff as the Guardian known as Mantis.

In the comics, Quill’s real dad is J’son of Spartax (or Jason of Sparta), but I have no idea if this aspect will carry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nevermind. I support this no matter who his character ends up being. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will begin shooting next year for release on May 5, 2017.

Sequel's Release Date

Besides Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming The Hateful Eight, Russel can also be seen in the western horror pic Bone Tomahawk.
