‘La La Land’ Wins Top Award at 2016 Toronto Film Festival

Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed musical La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, received the top award from the 41st Toronto International Film Festival.

The first runner-up was Garth DavisLion, and the second runner-up for this year’s People’s Choice Award was Mira Nair’s Queen of Katwe.

The Summit/Lionsgate release, which bowed in Venice, faced stiff competition in Toronto from the likes of Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, which won the TIFF Platform Award, Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, and Amy Adams’ sci-fi drama Arrival, which all received solid reviews from critics.
