Legendary Taps Daredevil’s Steven S. DeKnight to Direct ‘Pacific Rim 2‘

Legendary And Universal Sci-Fi Sequel

Deadline reports that Legendary Pictures has set “Daredevil” season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight to direct the Pacific Rim sequel.

It looks like the follow-up to Guillermo del Toros’ 2013 Kaiju showdown is moving forward and to be happening under the director with potential. Besides creating the “Spartacus” series for Starz, DeKnight also worked on “Smallville” and saved “Daredevil” for Marvel when Drew Goddard dropped out.

I’m sure the upcoming sci-fi action sequel will have del Toros’ fingerprints all over it. The Crimson Peak director also tweeted that “good news” was on the way about Pacific Rim 2.

The current script was penned by Jon Spaihts ( Doctor Strange), based on characters created by del Toro and his co-writer Travis Beacham. The sequel was originally scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, but was then pulled by Universal who replaced it with Pitch Perfect 3. No new release date has been announced but it looks like del Toros’ optimism is finally panning out.
