The first A Walk Among the Tombstones trailer gives off a Taken-esque vibe with more horror elements, featuring Liam Neeson, Dan Stevens, David Harbour and Boyd Holbrook.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels about former NYPD cop Matthew Scudder, who works as an unlicensed private eye, this time it’s someone else’s family who gets Taken and killed.

Neeson stars as an alcoholic ex-cop who investigates the kidnapping of a heroin drug lord’s wife, teaming up with a heroin trafficker (Stevens) and his brother to hunt down these violent criminals before they strike again.

Written and directed by Scott Frank (The Lookout), this dark crime thriller opens in theaters on September 19th.

Check out the trailer and poster below – it definitely has a more serious tone than Taken.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels, A Walk among the Tombstones stars Liam Neeson as Matt Scudder, an ex-NYPD cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator operating just outside the law. When Scudder reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who kidnapped and then brutally murdered his wife, the PI learns that this is not the first time these men have committed this sort of twisted crime…nor will it be the last. Blurring the lines between right and wrong, Scudder races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again.
