Liam Neeson Narrates the First Teaser for ‘A Monster Call’

Juan Antonio Bayona‘s Film

Focus Features has released a lovely little teaser for Juan Antonio Bayona‘s A Monster Calls, a dark coming-of-age tale having Liam Neeson play a giant, gravelly voiced tree monster.

Based on the novel by Patrick Ness, who also penned the screenplay, the film stars newcomer Lewis MacDougall as a 12-year-old who escapes his unhappy reality by slipping into a dark fantasy world.

A Monster Calls arrives in theaters October 14th, 2016. Also starring are Felicity Jones, Signourney Weaver and Toby Kebbell. Check out the first teaser, showing off some great visuals while mimicking Jim Kay’s illustrations from the book and using the Cloud Atlas theme.

It really works in this trailer, though I am a bit confused on the tone. Let’s just say this may be Bayona‘s Pan’s Labyrinth.
