MACBETH First Official Photos

Today we have to share the first two official photos from the latest big-screen adaptation of the Scottish play Macbeth, the Justin Kurzel-directed drama film starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

The first images highlights Fassbender as the titular Scottish king with Cotillard playing Lady Macbeth.

Scripted by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff, the Shakespearean classic also stars Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki.

Natalie Portman had originally been linked to star opposite Fassbender.

All of the actors in this film speak with Scottish accent, except for Cotillard. The film’s pass is that her character spent time in the French court.

Fassbender told Daily Mail,

“We felt it would be unreasonable for her to put on a Scottish accent. It would not be unreasonable to presume that her character spent time in the French court.”

The film is using Shakespeare’s original dialogue and follows General Macbeth, whose deeply ambitious lady wife exploits her sexual hold over him as a means to persuade Macbeth to gain power of the throne over the sitting king.

Macbeth is expected to arrive in the U.K. in early 2015.
