MAPS TO THE STARS New Image and International Poster

The Cannes Film Festival organizers will announce their full slate of films next week and one movie you can bet on being there is Maps to the Stars, the next feature film by David Cronenberg starring Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack and Julianne Moore.

Cronenberg’s follow-up to his popular feature Cosmopolis “is completely different [from Cosmopolis]… it’s very acerbic and satirical. It’s a hard sell.”

The Bruce Wagner (Wild Palms) – written film described as a drama, thriller and satire, follows the Weiss family, a Hollywood dynasty where each member has their own array of problems, with drugs, pyromania and ghostly visions all in the mix.

Cusack portrays a millionaire self-help author, while Wasikowska stars as his “apparently psychotic” daughter alongside Moore as an actress, Pattinson as a limo driver, and Carrie Fisher appearing in a cameo role.

The fiercely individual drama gets an R-rating from the MPAA and doesn’t have a US distributor yet.

Check out a new image of Wasikowska’s Agatha, recently released from a sanitorium as well as an Italian teaser poster which unveils the “movie will be out in Italy shortly before Cannes wraps up.”

Led by the loathsome yet funny and touching child-star Benjie, we witness the convoluted world of shallow, selfish celebrities and their minions, all of whom are about to be manipulated and destroyed by the young woman who literally represents the fruit of their twisted machinations, Agatha, Benjie’s tormented, apparently psychotic sister. As much as it is a sharp, comic look at a vacant and corrupt world, Maps To The Stars is also a haunting ghost story.
