Margot Robbie Set to Play Harley Quinn in DC Comics SUICIDE SQUAD Film

Hot on the heels of talk that Jared Leto might be playing The Joker in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad movie, comes word via Collider that Margot Robbie has indeed been cast as Harley Quinn, the infamous girlfriend and the right-hand lady of The Joker in the film.

Robbie’s name had been linked alongside Will Smith‘s and Tom Hardy‘s for roles among the Squad’s rank a few weeks ago. Ryan Gosling was also in talks to star in the film, but had reportedly withdrawn from contention. English actress-model-singer Cara Delevingne was reportedly considered for the Harley role, too.

Warner Bros. hasn’t made any official announcements regarding this casting yet, or if Smith and Hardy have ended talks, but it seems likely to be a common belief they are close to signing on to the first officially scheduled DC Comics feature set to follow 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The Wolf of Wall Street breakout  Robbie already filmed Z for Zachariah and she plays the female lead in the new Smith heist movie Focus. Furthermore,  she’s about to start shooting David YatesTarzan, romantic drama The Mountain Between Us opposite Charlie Hunnam and The Taliban Shuffle comedy with Tina Fey. Martin Scorsese‘s biographical black comedy film has no doubt done wonders for Margot.

And if you are wondering whether talented Aussie actress can speaks like Harley and do wacky with menace in her style, just check out the Wolf of Wall Street red-band clip below. (Warning: There’s an abundance of F-bombs in this one.)

Her voice was exactly how I expected Harley to sound.

For those unfamiliar with Harley Quinn character, she is actually Dr. Harleen Quinzel, an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who became obsessed with The Joker while treating him. She became a key part of the Suicide Squad in the New 52 relaunch.

The Ayer directed live-action feature, described as “The Dirty Dozen with super villains,” will be in theaters on August 5, 2016, which means they’ll probably be shooting in the spring. Fingers crossed. Let this happen!
