Marisa Tomei in Talks to Play Spider-Man’s Aunt May in Marvel’s Reboot

Marvel And Sony’s Spider-Man

Oscar-winning actress may be about to get caught in Marvel and Sony’s web. Variety is reporting that Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) is the top choice by Marvel Studios and Sony to play Aunt May for the new Spider-Man solo film which is set for release in 2017.

The site notes that a deal isn’t necessarily finalized. Sony and Marvel did not comment on the report.

If the deal gets done, the 50-year-old New York native would be the youngest actress to play Peter Parker’s guardian on screen so far, which pairs well with the 19-year-old Tom Holland as the youngest version of the web-slinging superhero to be seen in film also. The character has previously been played by Rosemary Harris, in Sam Raimi’s initial film trilogy, and by Sally Field in the two Marc Webb reboot films.

John Watts is directing the untitled Spider-Man reboot, slated for a July 28, 2017 release.

Tomei will next been seen in Train Wreck, opposite Amy Schumer. She’s great, so, great news, but it’s one of those moments when you realize that you are getting older.
