Marvel Eyes SELMA Director to Helm Superhero Movie

Captain Marvel Or Black Panther

According to The Wrap, Selma director Ava DuVernay is being eyed to direct a Marvel Studios movie, meaning either Captain Marvel or Black Panther.

Turnaround, every now and then we hear that someone come up in connection with a Marvel flick, such as Angelina Jolie Captain Marvel rumor, but more details about possible new deal after the jump.

Insiders with knowledge of the studio’s plans tell the outlet that the Chadwick Boseman starring Black Panther film, which is due in July of 2018 is Marvel’s preferred project for DuVernay since it’s the earlier of the two. She has reportedly been in high demand since coming off the Best Picture-nominated Selma.

Boseman’s titular character will be introduced as T’Challa in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, while Marvel just hired Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) to write the script for the later, which is due on November 2, 2018. The actress for lead Carol Danvers, who is given alien powers by the Kree, has yet to be announced.

Roger Ebert would be so proud of how far Ava DuVernay has come. I actually want to see her tackle more passion projects in the vein of her previous films than a superhero movie, but if she really wants to do it, let her do it.
