Michael K. Williams Joins 2 Films

Michael K. Williams, best known as Omar from “The Wire,” had add Ghostbusters and Assassin’s Creed to his filmography.

He will first take on a supporting role in Paul Feig’s currently in production Ghostbusters, the femme-powered pic which stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. His character (named Hawkins) is being kept under wraps. Andy Garcia, Matt Walsh and Cecily Strong have also signed on for the reboot thing, which is set to release in theaters on July 22, 2016. I can’t begrudge Williams, and even Garcia, taking a big paycheck high profile movie when offered, but weird for them to be in this movie for sure.

Williams, who also played Chalky White on “Boardwalk Empire,” will then shoot Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed, joining a cast that already includes Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Ariane Labed. His co-starring character has the potential to appear in multiple films should the first film be successful. Oh man, this guy is everywhere.

Fox and New Regency’s film based on the popular Assassin’s Creed video game franchise begins filming this fall. The film will open in theaters December 21, 2016.
