Michael Pena & Dax Shepard are On Patrol in First Trailer for ‘CHiPs’ Movie

Feature Film Adaptation

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for CHiPs, a big screen version of the ’70s cop show about two California highway patrolmen.

Dax Shepard wrote, directed, and stars in the upcoming R-rated, action-comedy as Jon Baker, who was played by Larry Wilcox in the late ’70s / early ’80s television series. Joined by Michael Pena as Frank Llewelyn “Ponch” Poncherello, originated by Erik Estrada in the TV show, this raunchier version of the cop series sees Ponch as an undercover Federal agent on the hunt for corrupt cops, while Baker is a retired X-Games biker looking for a way to stay on the hog.

The film also stars Jessica McNamee, Adam Brody, Ryan Hansen, Vincent D’Onofrio, Justin Chatwin and Kristen Bell. Watch the CHiPs trailer, which debuted Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and check out the film’s poster below.

Feature Film Adaptation

Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.

The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

The comedy opens wide on March 24th.
