More DOCTOR STRANGE Casting Rumors; Tom Hardy Eyed for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Another day, another bombshell report…. Casting rumors have been flying for the better part of the week about who will be in WB’s next DC movie, Suicide Squad and on the Marvel side the talk has all been about Doctor Strange. According to The Wrap, Marvel is now adding Colin Farrell to a shortlist alongside the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Keanu Reeves who worked with  Scott Derrickson before on The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Joaquin Phoenix was finally removed from the running by his representatives.  Phoenix’s publicist said the actor talks were

“dead dead dead. A couple of weeks ago they mutually decided to part ways. It was over before the New York Film Festival.”

Ryan Gosling has been approached for the role as well — or at least Marvel have been apparently courting him — and Ewan McGregor’s also been linked to the Sorcerer Supreme role, but it’s believed that Cumberbatch,  Farrell and Reeves are top contenders for the lead at this point (that could easily change at any minute). The current list of hopefuls also includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew McConaughey, Oscar Isaac, Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke, so basically anybody is in the running for Doctor Strange.

Tom Hardy was reportedly a one-time contender for Dr. Strange too, but for the moment his inclusion seems unlikely as he’s sought for Suicide Squad. Now sources within the major agencies have told the outlet that Fox wanted Hardy for the title role in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse.

I will not mad at all if he end being Apocalypse, he’s a man familiar with playing comic book bad guys.  And X-Men: Apocalypse looks more like a sure thing right now. It is currently pegged for May 18, 2016, and Doctor Strange is scheduled for a July 8, 2016. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has the same release date strategy, the summer of 2016 (August 5).

Regardless of which one Hardy picks, 2016 is gonna be an awesome year for comic book fans.
