Naomi Scott to Star in ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot as the Pink Ranger

Naomi Scott As Pink Ranger

Well, that didn’t take long. Lionsgate‘s upcoming Power Rangers movie found its Pink Ranger and she’s the Lemonade Mouth star Naomi Scott. According to the official Power Rangers Instagram account the third theatrical release for the franchise now has its first official cast member.

Just days before, word broke about actors testing for three of the main roles and the 22-year-old English actress was one of the front runners. This is a good start. She most recently had a small role in Ridley Scott’s The Martian and played Maddy Shannon in the short-lived Fox TV series “Terra Nova.” Naomi Scott can be next seen in the Chilean miner movie, The 33.

Director Dean Israelite described Kimberly, the original Pink Ranger as

“unconventionally cool all in a way the popular girls wish they were. In fact, she was one of those girls, but isn’t anymore. Not since she’s returned to school after an absence of 6 months. Rumors are flying as to why; rumors she seems not to care about, because she’s come back with this new rebel-without-a-cause, edgy attitude. But the truth is, it’s all masking a deep secret that makes her feel profoundly vulnerable.” (via Collider)

It’s official! #NaomiScott will play the #PinkRanger in the @PowerRangersMovie!  Coming in 2017…

I really hope that this is more like the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” series than the latest Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter) turned in an early draft of the script, with Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz developing a “mature but still playful” take on it.

Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment’s Power Rangers morphs into theaters January 13, 2017.
